How sound packs work

Official packs come with the game, themed around animals, machines, voices and more (FoliesApp’s Steam page).
Sounds are picked at random across the packs in play — “picked at random across the packs you own”, in FoliesApp’s words.
Everyone needs the pack. “Everyone at the table needs the pack before a game can start — the lobby tells you exactly who is still downloading.”
Packs are Steam Workshop items. You subscribe on Steam; there is no official zip or file download to hunt for.

“Minecraft Pack !” has a hand-written description, so its sound count isn’t listed. Packs published before the August 27 launch (Mario, memes FR, the BNJZ packs) date from the pre-release period; BNJZ is also the name that signs FoliesApp’s official Steam announcements, and Blueberries78 appears as a player in the official screenshots.

He he he ha is described by its creator as popular Clash Royale sound effects. Other names in the next 15 include Laughs, Roblox sounds, Cat sounds, Among us, Babies, DBZ and Dogs.

What the numbers say

Memes and game sounds dominate. 14 of the top 15 are meme, anime or video-game sound sets (the 15th is Michael Jackson); none of them is an animal or machine pack.
Packs are small. The top 15 hold 5 to 19 sounds each — you’ll hear repeats within a long game, so groups stack several packs.
Many packs are regional. French, Latin American, Arabic, Polish and Balkan meme packs are all near the top of the trending list, which matters if your group doesn’t share the references.

How to install a pack

Open the pack’s Steam Workshop page and click Subscribe (or browse from the Mimic Party Workshop hub).
Launch the game; Steam downloads subscribed packs.
In the lobby, add the pack to the room. One host in a launch-week video finds the browser “very top left… browse packs, browse themes”.
Wait until the lobby shows nobody is still downloading, then start.

Making your own pack

The game has a built-in pack editor — Workshop packs made with it carry an auto-generated description in French (“Pack créé avec l’éditeur intégré…”, pack created with the built-in editor).
FoliesApp says you can publish a pack to the Workshop “in a couple of clicks”.
Clip length: a player in the Steam discussions reports the default sound duration is 4 seconds, which can cut longer sounds, and asks for a setting to change it. FoliesApp has not answered publicly; treat it as a player report.
Big packs are awkward to edit: another player reports that scrolling through a pack of about 50 files takes minutes.
Content rules apply. At least one popular community pack (Random Sounds Pack v4) has been removed from the Workshop by Steam for violating its content rules — copyrighted or offensive clips can take a pack down.
